Airtightness tests prove useful in pipes that are difficult or impossible to access for visual inspections, or as an additional safeguard beyond visual inspections. For example, in process pipes, which often transport environmentally hazardous waste to water treatment plants, it's crucial to ensure that no fluid contaminates the surrounding soil and/or groundwater.
