Winterizing Fort of Ertbrand

Fort van Ertbrand maakt zich winterklaar

What?

Over the past three years, Natuurpunt has worked hard in the Ertbrand fortress in Kapellen to significantly improve the living conditions of the many bats. Fort van Ertbrand is located next to the Antitankgracht in Kapellen. It is the most northerly fortress of the outer ring of fortresses around Antwerp. The Ertbrandbos is also the natural hub between the nature and forest areas of Stabroek, Kapellen, Brasschaat and the Kalmthoutse Heide Border Park. Fort Ertbrand belongs to the habitat directive area 'Historic fort belts of Antwerp as bat habitats'. It was already a good wintering place for bats, which is not so surprising. Several species of bats such as water bats, whiskers and fringe-tailed bats like the combination of a good winter home and an attractive hunting and habitat in the area. The surrounding Ertbrandbos meets this profile.

Working in the fortress

The old drainage channels had become silted up with sand over time. The corridors were skilfully emptied by Group Peeters. We used a custom-made installation to clear the corridors and transport the sand outside. These corridors were later closed with fencing to keep out human intruders but to keep them accessible for the bats. The restoration of the function of these corridors contributes to the preservation of the building, and they also provide the ideal climate for the many hibernating bats.

CUSTOM-WORK FOR BOREALIS: HIGH-TECH CATALYST MIXING INSTALLATION

CUSTOM-WORK FOR BOREALIS: HIGH-TECH CATALYST MIXING INSTALLATION

What?

The Peeters Group supports Borealis at every stage of reactor maintenance (emptying and filling of the reactors; mixing and sepation of the catalyst).

How?

In close collaboration with the end customer Borealis and the supplier, we have developed a total solution for recycling and mixing the catalystor.

The installation operates around the clock, and we continuously monitor the mixing ratio. The installation is completely dust-free and automatically fills the bins up to a previously configured weight.

In a second stage, the system is adapted to separate the spent catalyst in its various components.Two-third will be recovered and used in the next catalyst change.

Non-Entry tankcleaning

Non-Entry tankcleaning

What?

Tank cleaning without entry, in which more than 95% of the product is recuperated.

How?

PTS (Peeters Tank Solutions) took care of flushing, removing gasses and cleaning of 3 tanks: , made them gas free and cleaned them gereinigd: 2 crude oil tanks (ø 55 mtr) and 1 slop tank (ø 44 mtr).

After 4 weeks, more than 2,000 tons of product from the first tank have been recovered without entry; the cleaning costs are covered by the advantage of waste reduction and recovery of the product.

Removing coating with Ultra High Pressure

Removing coating with Ultra High Pressure

What?

Removing old layers of paint or coating fast with Ultra High Pressure (3000 bar)

How?

We used this blasting method to remove layers of paint and primer of a lime kiln tower.

On a smooth surface, a progress of 50m² per employee has been achieved per shift. Advantages of the UHD blasting is that no blasting grit is used or needs to be processed, there is no dust nuisance and a minimum amount of spray water is released.

Peeters cleaning in Le Havre

What?

Cleaning of 2.5 km long heavily polluted pipelines using pigging

How?

To be able of receiving big oil tankers at the port of Antifer, Normandy, the port is equipped with a pier, 2 kilometers from the coast. From the docking point we have emptied the pipes with a pipe length of 2500 meters (20 "and 12") using pigging. In addition, we have cleaned a pipeline of 100 meters (16 ") on the eastern and western pontons by means of High pressure hot water.

The pipes should not be exposed to more than 1 bar over/under pressure, we should not use detergents and the amount of rinse water should be reduced to a minimum. Therefore we've successfully done dozens of runs with vacuum pigs and customized scrapers to make this job work out.

Cutting of the top section of a refractionator using water cut techniques

What?

Loosening of the top section of a fractionator at a refinery

How?

The 60-tonne top (diameter 6 meters, wall thickness 25 mm) was 'cut of using the cold water cutting technique for safety reasons, after which he could be replaced by a new part. This technique makes it possible to cut spark-free without the risk of explosion.
